We are consulting on early ideas for our Sustainability, Climate Change and Environment Strategy in West Lindsey from 6 July to 14 August 2020. The consultation will review proposals outlined in our Tackling Climate Change Together summary document which can be viewed in the Downloads section. It outlines our current thinking on the strategy and will help to begin discussions with residents, businesses and communities.
We are particularly keen for young people across the district to be involved and have produced a Young People Consultation and Engagement survey and competition.
There are two opportunities to have your say with the aim to produce a district wide strategy and action plan by early 2021 and will be achieved in two phases of consultation:
Phase 1: Looks at initial ideas and seeks to engage with residents, businesses and communities. The results of which will feed into the creation of a formal draft strategy for the district.
Phase 2: Consultation will take place later in the year and will seek to consult in more detail on the draft strategy. The results of this phase will then support the development of a final strategy and action plan by early 2021.
The council is already taking action and your input will further inform what more we could and should do. If you would like further information about our plans please visit our Sustainability, Climate Change and Environment Strategy web pages.
Why We Are Consulting?
Tackling climate change and protecting our environment is a key priority for West Lindsey District Council. In November 2019 the council recognised the conclusions of the ‘Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C’, and as a result, committed to developing a strategy for the district to address the issues and prepare for the local impacts. The vision is for us to use all of our powers to action, enable and support everyone in working towards achieving carbon neutrality and climate resilience by 2050. This is not an easy undertaking. To be truly effective we need to create a strategy that we all feel involved with and which will inspire us all to take action. We have produced a framework document setting out early ideas around the following areas:
- Decision Making
- Land Use
- Raising Money
- Influencing and Campaigning
- Protect the Most Vulnerable
We now want to hear your ideas and views on these proposals in a short online survey.
This consultation closes on Friday 14 August 2020.
