Each year West Lindsey District Council is asked by residents what they need to do with regards to their Christmas and New Year’s waste collections and recycling.
So we have put together some handy tips as part of our ‘Right Thing, Right Bin’ campaign, which we have been working alongside Lincolnshire Recycles to ensure that correct items get recycled over the festive period.
As there is no dedicated collection for Christmas trees, we ask that they are either taken to a local household waste recycling centre (HWRC), or chopped up and placed in residents’ garden waste bins for when collections restart.
Please remember the garden waste collections in West Lindsey will restart the week commencing 21 March 2022 or 28 March 2022, depending upon which week the resident’s collection falls on. Subscribe for next year’s collections.
Lincolnshire County Council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC’s) will be open from 8am – 4pm (Louth 9am – 4pm) on Friday 24, Monday 27, Tuesday 28, Friday 31 and Sunday 2 January. There is no longer any need to book a slot. Find the details of your nearest one.
We want to also remind residents that as a lot more recyclable waste is generated over the festive period, we will collect any extra recycling side waste if left neatly next to your blue bin, in cardboard boxes or carrier bags.
Bin collections will remain the same over the Christmas period, with Friday 24 December, Bank holiday Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 to Friday 31 being normal working days. Waste collections also take place on the Bank Holiday, Monday 3 January 2022 and continue as normal after that date.

What can go in your recycling bin?
- Non-shiny/glitter wrapping paper
- Plastic chocolate/sweet tubs
- Plastic biscuit trays and cardboard containers
- Glass bottles and jars
- Drinks cans and food tins (such as soup tins, if rinsed out)
- Clean tinfoil
- Empty drinks cartons, such as orange juice
- Empty aerosol cans
