A local Gainsborough charity providing essential transport to local residents has become much more recognisable following the purchase of a new adapted vehicle.

Gainsborough Community Wheels (GWC) Car Scheme, who officially became a registered charity in May 2020, offers a transport service to people who experience difficulty attending their medical appointments at hospitals, GP surgeries and dentists.

The new vehicle allows clients who are reliant on their wheelchairs or mobility scooters to access the vehicle by way of a ramp.  There is also seating for carers or relatives to sit with clients to give them support.

Chairman of the charity, Charles Johnson, said “Gainsborough Community Wheels recently completed it’s first project since becoming a fully recognised charity last year.  We are now able to reach an important part of the West Lindsey community.  This vehicle will allow all age groups with various disabilities to attend medical appointments at any establishment across the eastern region."

GCW were able to purchase the vehicle with support from West Lindsey District Council.  Further financial support was given by Ping Europe, Burton & Dyson Solicitors to have the vehicle liveried and continued backing by Lincolnshire County Council.

Community Engagement Officer at West Lindsey District Council, Matt Snee, added: “Charities and volunteers play an essential part in allowing a modern society to function.  Where we can, we will always look to help these charities progress and become known throughout the community – to help those who need it.

"This is yet another example of a charity run completely by volunteers who have selflessly dedicated their time to help the needs of others, in a time where help was and remains needed the most.”
