Celine: My heart will go on

Former X-factor contestant, January Butler, who performed on the hit TV show in 2009 is looking forward to performing at the Trinity Arts Centre, Gainsborough this Saturday.

The singer who performed on stage at the AO Arena, Manchester with Nicole Scherzinger and Olly Murs has been named the UK’s best Celion Dion’s tribute act.

The ‘My Heart Will Go On’ tour is a stunning celebration of the music and life of one of the greatest singers of our time, and will get you in the magical Christmas spirit.

January started singing at the age of 12 before turning professional, singing as herself at weekends. She said: “People would often say to me that I sounded like Celine Dion. When I applied for the X-Factor in 2009, Nicole Scherzinger said I reminded her of Celine and that I was exactly like a younger version of her, but I never picked up on it at the time!

“I used to do it as a bit of a joke really – I used to finish a gig and ask for any requests, and members of the audience would ask me to do an impersonation of Celine, so I’d do it acapella. I never took it serious until Lockdown, where I decided on the idea to be a tribute artist, Celine was always my ‘go to’ because I have always admired and loved her!”

January is also no stranger of performing with the stars as she said: “One of the best moments in my career was singing with The Script, Olly Murs and Nicole Scherzinger and other famous artists at the AO Arena, along with meeting them all backstage, it was a lovely experience, they were all so lovely!”

The mum of two is looking forward to kick-starting her tour and performing the songs of one of her much loved artists. She mentioned that she also has the added bonus that her husband and two kids are able to come along on the tour with her, meaning that she doesn’t miss out on that special family time.

“The highlight of my career was my four year old coming backstage to me after a show, and I said did mummy do ok? And he said no… you did amazing! Moments like that make it all so worthwhile.”

January filmed her show reel at the Trinity Arts Centre in Gainsborough, so she is already familiar with the venue, she said: “It’s such a lovely theatre – such a nice, cosy atmosphere – I love it!

“The size of the venue doesn’t make a difference, I’ve sung in pubs, I’ve sang at the AO Arena to 25,000 people, and it just doesn’t make a difference because I just love what I do. I still give the exact amount of passion and effort into any performance.”

The Celine double is set to perform all over the country starting this month, she said: “We’re going all over, we’re going from London to Scotland and so far we have got 28 dates booked in. Gainsborough is our second show – we’re really looking forward to getting out there.”
