There is so much to see in West Lindsey and a great way of experiencing this is by cycling. With cycle routes to suit all abilities from 2.5 to 46 miles on flat to hilly terrain, it is the perfect place to get out your bike.

We have produced a range of cycle route leaflets all of which are available to download below.

The Cycling in West Lindsey website has a range of cycle routes through the district and the National Cycle Network is also a useful source of additional information.

Information about cycle routes in the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape which is an area of outstanding natural beauty can be viewed on Love Lincolnshire Wolds website.

Willingham Woods on the eastern edge of Market Rasen, is the perfect setting for walking and cycling. Many of the circular routes from Market Rasen use the  National cycle Route 1 as a base.

The Lindsey Trail is a 69 mile trail across the Lincolnshire Wolds. Suitable for carriage drivers, horse riders, cyclists and walkers it extends from Willingham Woods in the north to Horncastle in the south.

The Water Railway is a mostly traffic free offroad route that is ideal for cycling and walking. The full length of the route is 33 miles long from Lincoln to Boston and features vast open fenland landscapes, with long views and extensive skies. Commissioned artwork can also be found along the route inspired by Lincolnshire’s own Alfred Lord Tennyson.

Cycle Lincolnshire

Two new routes have recently been released by Cycle Lincolnshire, in partnership with West Lindsey District Council, allowing visitors and residents to explore the district on two wheels.

Route 1: Snakeholme to Wragby

A new route from Snakeholme to Wragby has also been developed by Cycle Lincolnshire, supported by West Lindsey District Council, and is a circular route that covers 11.5 miles. A printed leaflet is available for the full route from Snakeholme to Wragby [pdf / 830 KB] that provides step by step instructions and a QR code where you can download the GPX file for a GPS. The leaflet also highlights points of interest that can be found in the area to allow visitors to explore further. You can also find that GPX file at Riding with GPS.

Route 2: Edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds

Starting in Market Rasen, this route can be done in two parts or one long ride in a figure of eight. Route one starts in Market Rasen and goes to Caistor passing Osgodby, North Kelsey, Nettleton, and Claxby returning to Market Rasen (33.5 miles / 54km). Route two takes riders from Market Rasen to Wickenby, exploring Friesthorpe, West Torrington, North Willingham, Tealby and back to Market Rasen (25 miles / 40km).

We have created a leaflet for both Edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds routes [pdf / 1.45 MB] which provides step by step instructions and a map for these routes. Also, Ride with GPS has GPX files to use with a GPS for both routes:

To request hardcopies of either leaflet, please email tourism.info@west-lindsey.gov.uk

Cycle Lincolnshire have also developed a number of other routes that allow you to experience many different aspects of Lincolnshire. For more information please see the Cycle Lincolnshire section of Visit Lincolnshire.
