Conservation areas

The designation of a conservation area indicates the council’s positive commitment to these areas and its intention to preserve and enhance the quality of the environment.

Listed buildings

A listed building is one that is included on The National Heritage List for England.

Trees and hedges

We have a dedicated environment officer who deals with tree and hedge matters.

Area of outstanding natural beauty

Areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) are areas that have been deemed to have such a unique natural beauty that they are a national asset.

Bio diversity

West Lindsey District Council is an active partner in the development and promotion of the Lincolnshire Biological Action Plan - through its own actions and supporting other agencies and partners in developing this important area.

Local wildlife sites

Local Wildlife Sites are defined areas identified and selected locally for their substantive nature conservation value. We have to create and maintain a diverse and resilient countryside … it isn’t enough to simply protect a few jewels in the crown.

Scheduled ancient monuments

Most monuments are earthworks or unoccupied structures (often ruinous). They are the most protected of all archaeological sites. Scheduling started in 1882. Many new monuments have been added in recent years as part of a national review. Two types of building cannot be scheduled, those in use as dwellings, and those in active ecclesiastical use.
