Sustainability, Climate Change and Environment Research and Advice

Due to the importance of the topic there is much research undertaken into climate change and its causes, impacts and what can be done to reduce the harmful effects. More information about climate change and advice on what we can do ourselves is available to view on the Sustainability, Climate Change and Environment Frequently Asked Questions page.

The most important recent study was produced by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The IPCC Special Report on Global Warming advised that we must limit global warming to 1.5°C by 2050 or the environment may suffer irreparable damage. Since that time many Governments have declared action to achieve this. The UK Government has pledged to achieve net-zero greenhouse gases by 2050 and many councils have made similar commitments.

There are lots of organisations working to help who provide research, advice and suggestions for what we can do to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment. Some examples can be found in the useful links section.
