There is just one Smoke Control Zone within West Lindsey, known as the Lincoln Fringe (the area between boundary of the City of Lincoln and Lincoln bypass) - for details please refer to the Smoke Control Order - Lincoln Fringe document.
Faulty appliances, burning the wrong type of fuel and the burning of treated wood can possibly cause you problems with your domestic heating system (open fires, wood burning stoves, multi-fuel stoves, wood-pellet stoves/boilers, AGAs, Rayburns etc) and there is the potential for harm and/or nuisance. Nuisance can take the form of excess of smoke, toxic fumes, soot smuts or other fallout which can amount to Statutory Nuisance under The Environmental Protection Act 1990 and for which an abatement notice can be issued. Please contact West Lindsey District Council’s Building Control team for help and advice on installing solid fuel heating appliances and for existing/new chimneys as these are subject to Building Regulations 2000. Smoke/emissions from commercial or industrial sites can be subject to The Clean Air Act 1993 and in some cases will need to have a permit from West Lindsey District Council.
