Carbon management plan

Carbon management plan

In these times of austerity it is vital that the council continues to reduce its energy consumption across all its estate. In 2021 we want our CO2 emissions to be 35% less than our baseline year of 2008/09, which means we need to achieve an additional 17% on top of the 18% that has been achieved so far.

In 2008 we worked with the Carbon Trust through the East Midlands Carbon Management Programme to put together a Carbon Management Plan to reduce the council’s CO2 emissions over the period 2008/09 to 2013/14; this plan has now expired so a new updated Carbon Management Plan has been developed that details achievements in carbon reductions to date and plans how to achieve further reductions.

The Carbon Management Plan sets out strategically how the council can reduce its Carbon Dioxide emissions and embed carbon management across the council.

The Carbon Management Plan shows our current emissions and a planned route on how to reduce our carbon emissions for the period 2016/17 to 2020/21. Within the plan is, carbon reducing projects and timed action plans. To ensure that carbon management is embedded into the council the plan details how it will be managed, reviewed and updated.

The Carbon Management Plan takes a strategic approach to understanding our carbon emissions corporately and prioritizing the most effective actions.

Our Carbon Management Plan 2016-2021 was agreed and endorsed by Prosperous Communities Committee on 19th July 2016 and Corporate Policy and Resources Committee on 28th July 2016 please see the plan in the downloads section.
