Funerals and cemeteries

You can find information about registering a death on the Lincolnshire County Council website. You cannot finalise the date for a funeral until you have registered the death. The date may also be affected if the death has to be reported to the coroner.

  • CemeteriesWe are responsible for cemeteries at School Lane, Springthorpe and Legsby Road, Market Rasen. Parish and Town Councils are normally responsible for cemeteries within their parish/town.
  • Exhuming a deceased bodyAll enquiries regarding exhumation should initially be made to a funeral director who will liaise with us and obtain the necessary documents for completion.

  • Public health funeralsWest Lindsey District Council may arrange the funeral when there is no one available to take responsibility.
  • Public Health Funerals and Cremations Freedom of Information RequestsWe receive a large number of requests, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, for details of cases where the Public Protection Team (Licensing) have undertaken arrangements for a funeral.
  • War memorialsLocal war memorials are maintained by Town and Parish Councils.
  • Lea Fields CrematoriumLea Fields Crematorium opened in January 2020, the first facility of its kind within West Lindsey.
