Attachment of earnings

Once a Liability Order has been obtained from Lincoln Magistrates Court, if you are employed, we can attach to your earnings. This means that we will ask your employer to take council tax from your salary and pay it directly to us. The amount that we take from your pay can vary between 3% and 50% of your salary and will depend on how much you earn.

The amount of the deduction that will be taken can be found by in the Attachment of Earnings Guidance pack [PDF / 1MB).

Your employer must follow the attachment of earnings order by law, and may be prosecuted and fined up to £1000 if they do not. They are allowed to charge £1.00 per deduction to cover their costs.

Your employer will continue to take payments until you have paid what you owe.
