Cllr David Cotton and Cliff Rust
Winner - Cliff Rust
Cliff has been nominated for his tireless and enthusiastic voluntary work on behalf of the Caistor community. He works on a whole range of community projects which directly help the town, such as litter picking and assisting older people with DIY jobs.
He has also been instrumental in Caistor in Bloom in helping with the heavy workload undertaken throughout the year and has worked hard on transforming an old people’s home from a grey and drab area into a vibrant and well-kept area helping reduce stress and sadness and making the residents feel better.
He uses his wide experience of 30 years in the fire service to good effect in getting people motivated and organised - there is no job too big or small for him.
His dedication has lifted civic pride enormously within the town and makes Caistor a better place for residents and tourists alike to work, live and play.
Runner Up - Hugh Gilfedder
Hugh has recently retired after nearly 15 years as editor of the Welton NEWS, a monthly magazine prepared by volunteers with contributions from community groups, the Parish Council and individuals.
He has maintained a strong streak of independence and challenges others to bring to residents' attention issues that may be of interest or thought provoking.
The production and distribution of the NEWS is a team effort but Hugh has overseen it all and ensured that it continues to be a success by planning and mentoring of his replacement.
Hugh has therefore played a vital part in ensuring the social inclusion of all residents through his work on the NEWS and has ensured that the publication has gone from strength to strength.
