The council is excited once again to host the West Lindsey Community Awards, an event which gives special recognition to the unsung superstars working in the community.
Community organisations and individual volunteers make a huge contribution to lives across the district, which is why the council is keen to recognise them at its 2019 Community Awards.
Councillor Pat Mewis, said: “As Chairman of the Council, I am privileged to be invited to many events throughout the district and I come across many people in the community who volunteer their time and have a real passion for the places they live and work. The Awards provide an opportunity to recognise these unsung superstars in our communities. From befriending a lonely neighbour to running community groups, or from providing an art class for the elderly to health walks around the village. A lot of the time the work goes un-noticed but the contribution is valued and this is an opportunity for us to celebrate their achievements.”
Last year’s District Champion was presented to Lizzie Jordan who, for over ten years, has gone into schools and shared her story of living with HIV with children and young people to educate them about healthy relationships and keeping themselves well and safe. She said “I felt really honoured and very shocked. This is a huge privilege. I am really proud of where I come from and to talk about my situation is a major honour to help people understand what happens when people live with HIV as not many people talk about it."
