Information you need to know if you are not interested in signing up for the chargeable garden waste collection service.
The proposal is that you don't have to opt-in to the garden waste service. You only need to pay if you would like to continue to receive a fortnightly green bin collection.
Please remember that your garden waste cannot be placed in your refuse (black) bin. Black bins with garden waste in (or next to them) will not be collected and may be subject to enforcement action.
Opting-out of the service
The plan is that you will not need to contact us to opt out. Free collections will stop from the end of March 2018 unless you contact us to sign up for the new service.
Alternatives to using your green bin
You can compost at home. We offer subsidised composters through Lincolnshire County Council. Home composting is an inexpensive, natural process that transforms your garden and kitchen waste into a valuable fertiliser for your garden. For more information or to place an order please visit www.getcomposting.com or call 0844 571 4444.
You could also consider sharing the cost of a bin with a neighbour. If so, a green bin will be charged to one resident and collected from the registered property only.
You can take your garden waste to any of the County Council's household waste recycling centres for free.
What happens to your green bin
If you don't want to pay for the service, you are welcome to keep your green bin, it just won't be emptied after the end of March 2018. You can use this bin if you later choose to sign up to the charged garden waste service (provided it is in good condition). Although the bin is yours to keep, the council remains the owner and you will not be allowed to sell or give your bin away.
Alternatively, we can collect your bin if you do not want to keep it. However, this means you will also be charged for the delivery of a new bin if you decide to sign up to the charged garden waste service at a later date.
