British Telecom (BT) contacted the Council on 16 September 2019 to advise us they intend to remove a number of public payphones across the district, as their use has declined by over 90% in the last decade and there is 98% 3G or 4G coverage in the UK, to support emergency calls from mobile telephones.
BT posted consultation notices in the affected phone boxes advising anyone to send their comments to the Local Planning Authority within 42 days.
Following the first consultation period, the Council's initial response to BT is set out in the first notification.
There is now a further consultation period until 13 December before the Council makes its final decision on whether or not to object the removal of any of these phone boxes.
If you wish to make any comments about the proposed removal of any of these phone boxes please contact the Council, using the contact details below, before 5pm on 13 December 2019.
The Council must then send its final decision to BT by 15 December 2019.
