European Parliamentary elections scheduled to take place on 23 May 2019
The Government has advised Returning Officers of all Councils in the UK to put plans in place to host a European Parliamentary election on Thursday 23 May 2019 should the UK still be a member of the EU at that time. We are making necessary preparations now. If the UK leaves the EU before Thursday 23 May 2019 the election would be cancelled.
Members of the European Parliament (MEP’s) are chosen to represent the East Midlands Region which covers the whole of Lincolnshire. It is your chance to choose the people and parties you want to represent you at a local level, as long as the UK remains part of the European Union.
The deadline to register for the European elections is Tuesday 7 May 2019. The easiest way to register is on line at www.gov.uk/registertovote
European Union citizens are eligible to vote on 23 May if they are on the electoral register and have completed a UC1/EC6 form which allows them to vote in their local area rather than their home country.
You can also apply to vote by post, or change or cancel an existing postal vote by 5pm Wednesday 8 May 2019.
If you would like to appoint a proxy (someone to vote on your behalf) the deadline for receipt of applications is Wednesday 15 May 2019.
