West Lindsey District Council are dedicated to improving access to private sector housing. Various teams across the Council work together to develop ways to tackle issues such as improving housing standards, reducing antisocial behaviour and homelessness.

As part of this, WLDC have appointed Ayla Walker as their new Private Rented Sector Officer. Ayla’s role is to work closely with private landlords and tenants in Gainsborough to increase tenancy sustainment in the area by providing advice and support around any issues that may occur.

The support provided includes, but is not limited to:

  • Mediation between landlord and tenant to resolve problems
  • Signposting to services inside and outside the council
  • Offering legal advice
  • Tenant referencing

Ayla has already started her new role and is developing new initiatives to assist people into secure homes. To run alongside this generalised support, a Private Renting Assistance Scheme has been devised to encourage landlords to offer longer tenancies and in return, receive a tailored package which includes services such as advertisement of their properties, tenant finder, inventory writing and follow on support with any tenant negations if needed.

Ayla states: “Gainsborough has so much potential in the private rented sector, so I’m really excited to get up and running and tackle any challenges the role may bring.”
