Internal Auditors have awarded West Lindsey District Council’s “Community Grants” schemes the highest possible mark, in an audit conducted between June and October this year.

Auditors checked the effectiveness of controls in place for the awarding of grants from the Councillor Initiative Fund, and the Match Funding scheme.

Following the audit, Inspectors awarded West Lindsey District Council with a “High Assurance,” audit mark.

Deputy Chair of the Governance & Audit Committee, Cllr Jackie Brockway, said: “Auditors were content that officers had a clear process in place for determining whether or not applicants were eligible for funding from both funds.

“High level processes remain in place to make sure that applications are thoroughly reviewed and that they fit with the core expectations of the scheme. This includes very careful checks being made by both Officers and Councillors.”

Communities Manager at West Lindsey District Council, Grant White, said: “The awarding of grants and funding within our communities is one of the most rewarding ways we as a council can help both make projects come to life, as well as help communities thrive. We understand however, that there is a balancing act to ensure fairness and responsibility and that is why we set our standard so high. I want to congratulate everybody for helping maintain these standards daily, and therefore contributing towards this awarding.”

The Audit was awarded as part of a series of independent Audit Inspections on different Council areas over the past few months.
