A teenager has kicked off her football career after being signed to Lincoln City Women’s Football Club.
Winger Jess Rousseau, who lives in Fiskerton, has played football competitively whilst studying for her GCSE exams and working part-time.
Jess said: “I have always loved the outdoors and being active. I followed my dreams, and I am so excited to have been afforded the opportunity to move into Women’s Football, within my home City.”
Since childhood she has nurtured a talent in football, noticed by one of her teachers at Fiskerton Primary School. Her development progressed from there, starting at Lincoln Griffins through to the FA’s Elite Pathway - Regional Talent Club, playing 2 years with Boston United and a year with Doncaster Belles U16’s.
Jess Rousseau is now a versatile attacking player who had an unforgettable season at her previous club. Her signing with Lincoln City Women’s football Club sees her move from youth football to women’s for this coming season.
The club are in the FA Woman’s National League Midlands Division, and the 2017/18 East Midlands Premier Champions.
Jess’s mother, Rachel Rousseau, was proud of her daughter’s achievements.
She said: “Jessica is such an inspiration, she is self-motivated and has always strived to be the best she can. It’s not always been easy for her, she was involved in a serious car accident nearly 6 years ago that potentially could have ended any dreams she had of becoming a footballer, but even at 10-years-old she picked herself up, and worked hard at her recovery, kicking a ball again as soon as she was able.”
West Lindsey District Councillor Chris Darcel, who is the ward councillor for Cherry Willingham, described the signing as a ‘brilliant success story for Fiskerton’.
He said: “Not only is this a great example of the triumph that can come from hard work, it will hopefully inspire other young people to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle. I’d encourage any young person who’s interested in trying a new sport to give it a go, you might discover a talent you never realised you had.”
