The Council is also offering free rents to all traders until April 2021 to support the market traders
West Lindsey District Council is helping to raise awareness of local projects by dedicating one stall a day on its busy market for communities and charities to use.
The stall at the Council-run market in Gainsborough will be free for charities and community organisations to use during trading times on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Each charity or community organisation can apply to occupy a stall, subject to terms and conditions.
Cllr Owen Bierley, Chairman of the Prosperous Communities Committee has welcomed the initiative which aims to support local communities.
“West Lindsey’s market is not just for trading, it is a community space and an ideal location for organisations to reach out to locals about their cause. We look forward to welcoming more initiatives and charities to work alongside local traders in the near future.”
Charities and community organisations wanting to make use of this valuable community space, can apply online here - https://west-lindsey-self.achieveservice.com/service/Charity_market_stall_application.
The news follows the successful reopening of the market which has seen many traders happy to return to the town to trade. The Council is also offering free rents to all traders until April 2021 to support the market traders, although space is subject to availability.
As previously reported, the Council has put a number of measures in place to make the market safe for both traders and customers. This includes changing the layout of the market, improved signage for social distancing to ensure that traders and customers are able to shop in confidence.
West Lindsey District Council is encouraging people to get behind local businesses in the district and support them where possible including market traders.
The Council launched its ‘Think Local’ campaign to raise awareness and support those local businesses across the district that are open for business. Covid -19 has had a huge impact on businesses nationally as many had to close due to the current lockdown. We want to encourage residents to Think Local when they shop or use a service, not just now, but in the future to support our communities and help our economy grow.
Businesses from across West Lindsey are invited to submit their details to be included in our Think Local directory. If you would like your business to be included in the directory, please complete the Think Local online form
Shoppers visiting the markets are urged to follow the government’s advice on social distancing.
