Gainsborough’s popular farmers’ and craft market re-opens this week following the recent announcements from government.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced last week that outdoor markets would be permitted to re-open for trade from 1 June 2020 – and plans were immediately put in place for the safe return of the monthly food and craft market.

On Saturday 13 June 2020 the town will host the market from 9am-3pm in the Market Place, just a few feet away from its pre-lockdown location on Market Street. This is to allow for full social distancing to take place ensuring both customers and traders remain safe.

The market will see the return of popular traders including Redhill Farm, MJ Capps Fishmongers and The Cheese Shop.

Hepy’s Hog Roast and Sarah’s Sweet Treats will also be returning in June with further traders to re-join in July.

Other producers who will be at this month’s Farmers’ and Craft Market include crafters Wild Rose Soap, Jane Lee artwork, The Yarnsmith and A Man from Skidby with his chainsaw wood carvings.

The market layout has been altered to ensure social distancing can be observed and to allow extra space for queues.

The monthly market was relocated from Marshall’s Yard to the town centre last year as part of a joint initiative coordinated by Marshall’s Yard with West Lindsey District Council.

Centre Manager for Marshall’s Yard, Alison Shipperbottom, said: “We are really pleased to have the go ahead by the Government to allow our markets to trade again this week.

“Our markets provide a wonderful and safe place to shop and buy fresh local produce due to them being held outside in the fresh air.

“With the additional safety measures that will be in place we’re keen to make visiting the market feel as safe and welcoming as possible”.
