Licence conditions for dangerous wild animals



  1. The animals shall be kept by no person other than such as is specified in the licence.
  2. The animal(s) shall not be removed from the premises specified in the licence without the prior approval of the Council, except in cases of emergency when the Council shall be informed as soon as possible thereafter.
  3. No animal(s) other than that directly specified on the licence shall be kept under the authority of the licence.
  4. The Council shall be informed of the production of any offspring from the animal(s) as soon as possible after birth and any such offspring shall not be moved from the premises without the prior consent of the Council.
  5. The animal(s) shall, at all times, be kept in accommodation which ensures that the animal(s) will not escape.
  6. In the event of an/any animal(s) escaping, the Police, the Licensing Authority and any persons at risk must be notified as soon as possible.
  7. The animal(s) shall at all times be kept in accommodation that is suitable as regards construction, size, temperature, lighting, ventilation, drainage and cleanliness and which is suitable for the number of animals proposed to be held at the accommodation.
  8. The animal(s) shall be adequately supplied with suitable food, drink, bedding material and shall be visited at suitable intervals.
  9. All excreta and used bedding shall be removed from the accommodation as and when necessary.  It shall then be disposed of as soon as is practicable and disposed of to the satisfaction of the Council.  Until such time as the material is disposed of it should be stored so as not to cause any nuisance.
  10. Appropriate steps should be taken at all times for the protection of the animal(s) concerned in case of fire or other emergency.  This shall include compliance with any recommendations by the Fire Service.
  11. All reasonable precautions shall be taken at all times to prevent and control the spread of infectious disease either from animal to animal or from animals to man.
  12. Suitable precautions shall be taken to eliminate fleas and other parasites from the accommodation.
  13. Proper arrangements shall be made for the safe and correct preparation and storage of  food including separate storage and refrigeration where necessary.
  14. Facilities provided for the preparation of food must be kept clean and vermin free.
  15. The person to whom the licence is granted shall hold a current insurance policy which insures the licensee and any other person entitled to keep the animal(s) under the authority of the licence for the sum of at least £500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Pounds), against claims for any damage which may be caused by the animal(s).  A copy of the policy shall be provided for the Council.
  16. The Council shall be informed of the death of any animal(s) specified on the licence as soon as reasonably practicable.  Should there be the likelihood of an infectious disease being involved the carcase shall not be moved without the prior consent of the Council.
  17. If in any event the animal(s) is/are to be kept by persons other than the licence holder, then the Council must be informed of the name and address and telephone number if possible of the person involved.
  18. A responsible person shall at all times be on, or within a reasonable distance of, the licensed premises for the purpose of giving warning and taking all the necessary steps in the event of fire or other emergency.  The Council shall be informed of the name and address and telephone number of that person.
  19. A licensee shall permit Officers of the Local Authority and any authorised veterinarian surgeon or veterinarian practitioner to enter the premises at any reasonable time.
  20. Failure to comply with any of the aforementioned conditions or failure to take appropriate steps to keep the animal(s) in a satisfactory state of health may result in withdrawal of the licence.
  21. The Council may vary the conditions during the operation of a licence.
