Becoming a candidate

Anyone considering standing as a candidate or an agent is strongly advised to read the Guidance for Candidates and Agents at UK Parliamentary general elections in Great Britain on the Electoral Commission website.

Nominations

If you intend to stand as a candidate, you must complete a nomination paper, home address form, consent to nomination and any other relevant forms contained in the nomination pack.

Delivery of Nomination Papers

Candidates wishing to stand for election must submit nomination papers to the Returning Officer between 10am – 4pm on any working day from Tuesday 4 June 2024 to Friday 7 June 2024 at the following location:

Reception
The Guildhall
Marshall's Yard
Gainsborough
DN21 2NA.

To make an appointment to submit your formal nomination paper, please either:

  • phone the Electoral Services Team on 01427 676576 during office hours only
  • email ereg@west-lindsey.gov.uk giving your name, contact details and number of nomination papers to be submitted

Priority will be given to those who have made an appointment. If you do not, you may have to wait to be seen.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your nomination papers, including the home address form and the consent to nomination, and where you are standing on behalf of a party, the certificate of authorisation and emblem request form, are delivered to the place specified on the notice of election by 4pm on 7 June 2024. If you are appointing an election agent, you will also need to submit their appointment form by this deadline.

Only a limited number of persons may deliver your nomination form and home address form. The nomination form and home address form may only be delivered by yourself, your proposer or seconder, or by your election agent, if the Acting Returning Officer has previously received notification of their appointment.

There are no restrictions on who can deliver your consent to nomination, certificate of authorisation and emblem request form, but we recommend that you, your agent, your proposer or seconder, or someone you trust delivers them, so you can be sure the consent is delivered to the Acting Returning Officer in time.

Anyone wishing to have an informal check of nomination papers prior to formal submission can email them to e-reg@west-lindsey.gov.uk

Campaigning

As with national elections, you and your campaigners should also have regard to the Code of Conduct for Campaigners at UK Parliamentary general elections in Great Britain, local elections in England and Police and Crime Commissioner Elections on the Electoral Commission website which outlines what is, and what is not, acceptable behaviour at polling stations and in the community during the lead up to polling day.
