Council Tax scams

We've been made aware of the following Council Tax scams

We have been made aware of a Council Tax fraud scam where someone telephones claiming to work for West Lindsey District Council. They state that you have a credit on your Council Tax account and ask for your details so it can be refunded to you.

We would never ring and ask for your bank details in order to refund a credit. Do not supply any details. Please contact West Lindsey District Council directly on 01427 676566 if you have any queries.

We've had reports of emails being sent, pretending to be from GOV.UK, offering council tax reductions and offering a way to apply for the reductions - the email contains links to a fake website for you to give your details. The emails we've seen have a heading saying: "You have a new message from GOV.UK about your Council Tax"

All Council Tax correspondence will be directly from your local council, will always be addressed to you personally and not just to an email address.

If you receive this email (or a similar email) do not click on any of the links in the email or supply any details. Please contact West Lindsey District Council directly on 01427 676566 if you have any queries.

Our team have been made aware of a Council Tax fraud scam, where a letter detailing measures to protect landlords and renters affected by COVID-19 has been sent to residents. The letter contains a fake website that asks you to upload details.

If you receive this either as an email or letter do not click the link or supply any details. Please contact West Lindsey District Council directly on 01427 676566 if you have any queries.
