West Lindsey District Council is thrilled the district was able to host the inaugural North Lincolnshire Women's Classic cycle race, the National B season opener for women in the UK.
The event, held on the challenging Hainton circuit, showcased the potential to become a premier race in the cycling calendar. The 10-mile circuit, characterised by rolling terrain, short ascents, and technical corners, provided a rigorous test for the competitors.
The circular route passed close to Market Rasen, taking in a series of villages including Hainton and North Willingham. The challenging race featured approximately 170m of climbing per lap, totalling 1020m over six laps.
The event was won by Bexy Dew, followed by Melissa Denman, and Georgia Lancaster who came home in third place.
Ward Councillor Moira Westley, who expressed her delight at the event's success, said:
"We are delighted to see the North Lincolnshire Women's Classic bring such energy and excitement to our community.
“The turnout and the competitive spirit of the participants were truly inspiring. Events like these highlight the strength and unity of West Lindsey, and I am incredibly proud of everyone who contributed to making this event a success."
The event was staged by Generation Pro Cycling Events, the same team behind races like the Beverley Grand Prix and the Barnsley Town Centre Races.
Chris Lawrence, Race Director at Generation Pro Cycling Events, said: “The North Lincolnshire Women's Classic was a raging success, with 52 of the country’s best women cyclists taking the start line on Sunday morning at Market Rasen Racecourse.
“West Lindsey was chosen due to the potential of the Hainton Ludford circuit, its rolling terrain, and natural beauty providing a really attractive setting to start the women’s national road racing calendar off.
“Generation Pro Cycling Events would like to thank local residents for their support throughout the event and intend to build from the 2025 event with a bigger event in 2026.”
