West Lindsey District Council has taken steps to clear up debris and rubbish outside the main entrance to the former RAF Scampton site.

A waste and recycling team from the council was at the site today (Friday) to clear away a large amount of rubbish that had built up within the encampment area at the A15 entrance to the site.

The council said the focus was to ensure the area was cleared so that it doesn’t pose a risk to the public or road users.

A spokesman for the council’s Waste and Recycling team said:

“The Council has taken steps to clear an area of the encampment at the front of RAF Scampton that was no longer in use.

“There are large amounts of debris and rubbish that have been left in situ, which is what we focussed on clearing in the first instance so that it does not pose a risk to the environment, the public or any road users.”

The Council has been advised by the Minister for Border Security and Asylum that the Home Secretary will decide upon the future of current Home Office accommodation, including former RAF Scampton, in due course.
