Invaluable business support is still available to businesses in West Lindsey for FREE, funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Since April 2023, 31 businesses have engaged with the free support programme ranging from self-catering accommodation owners through to restaurants and retailers. Led by retail expert Clare Bailey and a team of experienced business owners and experts, West Lindsey District Council has been able to offer tailored support in a variety of subjects including marketing, website development, accountancy, price structuring and product development.

Jen Stainton, owner of Strengu, is a sports massage therapist, kinesiology taping specialist and personal trainer based in Gainsborough. Jen has found the support instrumental in the future development of her business and a valuable sounding board to discuss business growth and provide an objective view.

After meeting with Clare, Jen has been able to develop a marketing strategy that has generated 12 months’ worth of activity around improving her social media, marketing, website development and SEO. Jen said:

“Clare’s support has literally given me enough work to do for the next year where it will be directly linked to the ongoing growth of my business. Working with Clare has been a catalyst and more, and I look forward to taking on these challenges over the next 12 months.

“Before I started this programme, I was winging it and a bit lost, but now I have structure. It has also made me realise that as a sole trader I can’t be an expert on everything! I have more drive and confidence in my marketing, and that comes from having real people assess your business from the outside.

“The support is being delivered by REAL businesspeople with REAL experience and insight which is invaluable for any businesses wanting to develop further. It’s easy to engage with and I have never once felt like I have been waiting for a response. I have never felt like a tick box exercise and have always felt enthused and like we are in the solution together. Honestly, this is the future of business support!”

Since going through West Lindsey’s business support programme, Jen now has future business development plans and aspires to become a local, regional, and national authority on health subjects. She also wants to develop an online offer that extends beyond Gainsborough and is considering scale-up possibilities and even a franchise!

Wild Pines Park has also taken advantage of the free support, which remains available to businesses across West Lindsey. Located in Market Rasen, Wild Pines Park is an outdoor activity centre and parkland offering award-winning high ropes courses, archery, and mini golf. Building and site hire are also available. Owner Samuel Woodings got in touch as he needed help marketing his business, including the technical side of social media, brand development and B2B work.

Samuel started his business in 2017 and described himself as a ‘one-man band’ and had to teach himself all aspects of business through searching online including health and safety, accounting, HR etc. Six years on, he has realised he overlooked some fundamentals that he now needs some support with. Samual said:

“Having access to support that doesn’t cost me has allowed me to fill in those gaps, plus offered reassurance that I knew more than I thought. The support has also allowed me to look at the digital side of my business, which has been incredibly valuable, as well as some great ideas for optimising online and how to maximise the chance of people discovering us via search”.

Through Clare’s support, Samuel is now working on a wider marketing strategy and plans to expand his services to include weddings, wellness groups, first aid classes, outdoor theatre and cinema and more! He now has the skills and confidence to target the right audiences with the right content to attract new customers.

“Everyone I've dealt with has been courteous, friendly, and professional. It has been comprehensive and swift in its delivery; all I could ask from the project would be more free hours,” added Samuel.
