West Lindsey District Council’s Building Control team has been working alongside Lincolnshire-based construction company Gelder Group, to undertake the refurbishment of Nettleham Methodist Church.

The five year long project involved the demolition and replacing of an existing flat-roofed extension, to enhance and improve this cornerstone of the village community.

Councillor Mrs Angela White, the Nettleham Ward representative who has been a life-long resident of the village, said the completed work meant a lot not only to the community but also to her personally.

“Both my mother and father were chapel members during their lives, and I myself got married there in 1971, and the difference these works have made to the building is phenomenal.”

Councillor White joined the Building Control team and Rob Sanderson from Gelder Group to commemorate the completion of this project during a recent visit.

A personal favourite feature of Cllr White’s is the new pitched roof. She said:

“It is far more in keeping with the original part of the church than the previous extension, I really admire the design.”

Reverend Alan Swann told West Lindsey District Council of the vast benefits the completion of this project will have on the local community in Nettleham.

“After five years of planning we are really pleased with the finished project. We now have a more welcoming community space to suit the needs of the church and community groups. The project wouldn’t have been possible without the help from the design and construction team of Dave Perkins and Gelder Group.”

Rob Sanderson, contracts manager at Gelder Group, who took a lead on the work and has worked closely with West Lindsey District Council’s Building Control team, was impressed by the flexibility, helpfulness and commitment displayed by site inspector Paul Round. He said:

“Throughout what has been a challenging project at times, Paul and the Building Control team were available to advise on and inspect the site at the drop of a hat.

“Every query I had was met with a fantastic response. West Lindsey’s Building Control team delivered everything asked of them and provided endless help and advice along the way to help us overcome many difficulties we were faced with. I cannot fault them.”

Paul Round, who undertook the majority of the site visits for this project and was the main contact for Gelder Group, had nothing but praise for the Lincolnshire-based firm. He said:

“Rob and the Gelder team have exhibited high levels of professionalism throughout the project, whilst working closely alongside our Building Control team at West Lindsey District Council. We are very pleased with the high standard of work attained to achieve Building Regulations compliance on this complex project.”

Building Control team manager, Phil Westmorland, was also present to commemorate the completion of the work. He said:

“It is great to work once again in partnership with Gelder Group on yet another excellent project that has delivered something so important to the village of Nettleham.”
