Communities are getting ready to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with an incredible line-up of events and activities across the district.

Special celebrations will take place across the UK and Commonwealth as people come together in celebration of the historic reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Street parties, a waterfront festival and many lunches and tea parties are all planned to take place throughout the district over the four day bank holiday weekend.

West Lindsey District Council has awarded £40,000 to projects as part of the Platinum Jubilee Community Fund, which was set up to encourage and support communities to host events and activities.

The Community Grants Panel included: Councillor Anne Welburn, Councillor Owen Bierley, Councillor John McNeill, Councillor Liz Clews and Councillor Judy Rainsforth.

Councillor Anne Welburn, Deputy Leader of the Council said the panel saw a range of projects presented including events and projects to improve the look and feel of West Lindsey towns and villages.

Councillor Welburn said:

“Seventy projects across the district have been awarded funds to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee which is fantastic to see. When we first launched this fund in December 2021 we were not sure how many people would take us up on this offer and the response has been overwhelming.

“We have been asked to support a wide variety of projects from tea parties to pocket park projects, platinum pathway tree planting, benches and even the repainting of a clock face to name just a few.

“It is important for our communities to come together, celebrate and create wonderful memories which this historic occasion provides us with an opportunity to do. Regardless of how you wish to spend the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend we are sure you will find something in your local community to enjoy.”

The Platinum Jubilee Community Fund has now closed after fully awarding the allocated funds. It was available to community groups to bid for up to £700 each.

In addition to these grants, communities and businesses across the district are hosting a range of events and activities over the Jubilee weekend, please check out what is happening in your own local communities by visiting your local village or town Facebook pages.
