Disruption to payment system — Monday 21 March 2022

On Monday 21 March 2022, we will be having an upgrade to our payment system, meaning we will not be able to process any payments over any channels between the hours of 9:30am to 2pm.

Recent changes already implemented aim to make online payments more secure for users and reduce fraud (3D secure). It requires a 2-factor authentication, and will usually mean the user will have to enter a short code sent by SMS text message by their bank.

Services meet Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) regulation by implementing 3D Secure as it adds an extra layer of identity confirmation before the user pays; this allows for transactions to meet the SCA rules.

Customers will not see any other difference when making a payment for now, but this latest upgrade is necessary for our chip and pin and contactless payments and will enable improvements to our website payment pages scheduled for later in the year.

Lyn Marlow, West Lindsey District Council's Customer Services Manager, said: “We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause, however, changes such as the new 3D secure will ensure that customers have more protection against fraud going forward when paying for services.

“It is hoped that all payment systems will be back up and running before 2pm, however we will let you know as soon as the upgrade has been completed and we are able to take payments again.”
