Autumn Jobs and Training Fair

A free event to highlight employment opportunities, career guidance and training in the district will take place next month.

The West Lindsey Employment & Skills Partnership is sponsoring an Autumn Jobs and Training Fair, which will be supported by the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) and Gainsborough College on Tuesday 23 November 2021.

This interactive and informative event will take place between 10am-2:00pm and offers all residents access to help and advice from employers, training providers and advice agencies.

Local employers and organisations promoting career opportunities and training in the district will be available to speak to, with experts on hand to talk about the skills employers are looking for.

Speaking on behalf of the DWP, Graham Metcalfe, Area Partnership Manager said, “For anyone seeking work, thinking of changing jobs, considering an apprenticeship or wanting to start their own business, this is the perfect event to attend as there will be something for everyone. There will also be plenty of staff on the day to help individuals navigate their way around the fair.”

West Lindsey District Council is a member of the Skills Partnership that has agreed to sponsor the event. Amanda Bouttell is the employment and skills lead and is currently lining up employers to attend with job openings and Apprenticeship vacancies. She said, “This is a great opportunity for employers to showcase their organisations to prospective employees.  Following a difficult period of uncertainty around employment, some people require a confidence boost to apply for certain job roles so this is one way to drive up recruitment.”

The event is suitable to anyone interested or considering the following:

  • Job vacancies
  • Apprenticeships
  • Work placements
  • Traineeships
  • Career opportunities
  • Higher level qualifications
  • Guidance and advice on current training available
  • Information on volunteering and work experience opportunities

Visitors will have an opportunity to speak to staff from the local college about qualifications in construction, care and automotive along with the successful Made in Gainsborough engineering apprenticeship scheme.  Sean Knight also looks after adult learning at the College and is keen to develop this further at the campus. He said, “We’d love to hear from members of the community about what they want to learn so we can put on courses and programmes that meet the needs of local people and employers.”

The event will also feature a number of community based employment & skills initiatives that aim to support diverse groups within the district. These programmes offer support to smaller cohorts of people with complex and profound barriers to move forward into employment. Sean Brennan is the Partnerships and Insight Manager at Acis Group and oversees the Youth Employment Support (YES) project funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. He said, “The YES programme is a more personalised programme of support that aims to transform the lives of 16-30 year olds that may feel marginalised from mainstream learning and job opportunities. We look forward to seeing people at the event.”

Strict measures will be in place on the day to keep people safe around the premises. The DWP will contact registered job seekers with an appointment to attend.

For any other enquiries or for employers that would like to attend the event please contact Amanda Bouttell at West Lindsey District Council – Amanda.bouttell@west-lindsey.gov.uk.
