Local residents in West Lindsey are being called on to visit three shops they have never visited before this weekend to celebrate Independent’s Day 2021.

The campaign – which takes place on 3rd and 4th July – seeks to support Independent Retailers across the UK – with independents accounting for approximately 65% of the 290,000 retail outlets across the country.

Deputy Leader of West Lindsey District Council, Cllr Anne Welburn, said that the campaign represented a fantastic opportunity for local residents to help and support the stores right on their doorstep.

She said: “Throughout this last year, I believe more than ever we have all embraced the local, independent stores on our doorsteps – from florists, to butchers, to independent furniture stores – this last year has perhaps opened our eyes to the importance and beauty that lies often just a few minutes’ walk from our own doorsteps.

“I urge local residents to continue to think local, starting this very weekend. When you visit your local town or village – whether Gainsborough, or Caistor or Nettleham or anywhere else in the District – look for those local gems, and give them a go! They need you now more than ever.”

Founder of the Retail Champion, and one of the most well-known and well respected retail experts in the UK, Clare Bailey, has called on residents within West Lindsey to help celebrate what’s right on their doorstep both this weekend, and beyond.

She said: “If everybody within West Lindsey visited three shops they have never visited before over this weekend, and spent whatever they can afford, the benefits for local businesses would be incredible.

“By visiting these three shops, as well as helping the local economy this weekend, you just might just find your next favourite store that you will want to visit again and again, and again.

“I am also calling on all residents to share three posts on their social media this weekend, under the tag #shoplocal. By visiting and sharing local businesses within West Lindsey, this may help attract new customers to their doors. Footfall really does lead to sales, and your local shops need you now more than ever, especially post 19th July with restrictions set to ease completely.”

Local residents can post their new shopping experiences on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram under the tag #shoplocal – to share their experiences this weekend.

At this time, shoppers are reminded to keep aware of the local restrictions currently in place – and to follow the hands, face, space, fresh air guidance as much as possible.
