Political Structure

This page shows information about the Council following the Council elections held on 6 May 2011 and  the annual council meeting on 23 May 2011.
 
The Council consists of 37 Councillors representing 25 wards.  

Councillors can combine into political groups.   The make up of the groups on the Council is currently:

  • Conservative 21
  • Liberal Democrat 11
  • Labour 2
  • Independents 3 (made up of one Group of 2; and one Independent) 

The Leader of the Council is Councillor Burt Keimach.

The Deputy Leader is Councillor Ian Fleetwood.

The Chairman of the Council is Councillor William Parry and the Vice-Chairman is Councillor Mrs Jessie Milne.

To carry out its role and functions effectively, the Council has set up appropriate political and officer structures to take and implement decisions and employs staff, building and financial resources.
