Sports Funding

Caistor and Market Rasen clubs get help

Sports clubs in West Lindsey have been given a share of the Community Sports Grant to buy essential resources for their community groups.

Clubs and activity groups were invited to apply for a share of the cash from West Lindsey District Council’s scheme.

Caistor Goes Events Committee has been awarded £1000 towards the town’s very own 10km run on June 4 2012.

Chairman of the group, Cllr Alan Caine, who is also a district councillor, welcomed the news.

He said: “I am over the moon the group has been successful with the funding for this event, which is being organised in conjunction with Caistor Running Club.

“The funding will help pay for signage, clocks and other equipment and will not only benefit the running club but other events in the area.”

Market Rasen Cricket Club has also been awarded £350 to pay for coaching courses for young members.

The community sports grants are an excellent opportunity for West Lindsey District Council to support local communities.

Sport and Community Development Officer, Chris Farrell said the scheme attracted a large number of applications but only nine were successful.

He said: “I am delighted that we have been able to support a wide range of sports and local groups within the district.

“The grants enable clubs and groups to purchase essential resources that help them continue to develop within their local community environment.

“Sport is something I am very passionate about and these local clubs are essential in inspiring and capturing young people’s interest in leading a healthy lifestyle.”

Chairman of the Prosperous Communities Committee, Cllr Malcolm Parish said the grants will help further enhance sporting involvement in local communities.

He added: “Local clubs are the focal point of community sport provision and West Lindsey District Council is amazed at the effort that local clubs and volunteers put into sport.

“We are delighted that we are able to provide so much money for community projects and sports development, during the current economic climate.”
