Snow cleared early
West Lindsey District Council has been out helping businesses and residents by clearing the snow in the town centre.
Staff were out early to clear the area after the lessons learnt last time.
The council have used new snow equipment that was bought after the bad snowfall in December 2010 to clear the way in Gainsborough town centre.
Staff from the operational services department were out with the new gritting machine and snow plough attached to small tractors.
Operational Services Manager Glyn Pilkington said: “For the first time, we have been able to test out our new gritter and snow plough.
“These were purchased following lessons learnt last winter when the town centre had to be cleared by hand and it took days.
“This time we were able to get the market place cleared before the snow had chance to get compacted. Of course this couldn’t have been achieved without the hard work of the team.”
Leader of the Council Burt Keimach congratulated the department for a speedy response. He said: “A fantastic job has been done by the men.
“Where it took days to clear the snow last time most of it has been removed in just a morning.
“This shows that we do learn from previous mistakes.”
