The role of Arts Development within the Community Safety unit includes a range of arts and heritage projects, which provide diversionary activity and tackle various forms of anti-social behaviour.
Our work in the arts continues in challenging financial circumstances by meeting the social needs of the community, working with both the perpetrators and victims of crime, as well as looking at more low level issues such as Anti Social Behaviour.
Examples of projects include:
· The Friday Night Project – This was designed to help tackle Anti-Social Behaviour amongst young people in Market Rasen. The project now has a youth café which is run by CG Partnerships. The café provides a safe place for young people to go and offers a range of activities to take part in. It also offers advice and help to young people with regards drugs, alcohol, and sexual issues.
· Theatre in Education Project - This was designed to help raise the profile amongst young people of the issues around Domestic Abuse. A Theatre Company called Ensemble 52 were commissioned to develop a play based on the stories and experiences of real victims of domestic abuse. This performance will be shown in schools across Lincolnshire.
· Old Hall Wall painting project – this is part of a partnership project called The Trent Vale Landscape Partnership Project (TVLP), to find out more about TVLP click the link below. This project will work with the Women’s Centre in Gainsborough to help recovering victims of domestic abuse. The women are to create a piece of art to reflect the Old Hall and the wall paintings in the hall. These paintings are historically significant and they are to be celebrated as well as helping these women rebuild their lives.
