Fly-posting

What is fly-posting?

There is no formal definition. However, it is generally taken to be the display of advertising material on buildings and street furniture without the consent of the owner, and contrary to the law. Fly-posting can occur in any location but is particularly prevalent in urban areas. It can be unsightly and is often seen as symptomatic of low environmental quality. Fly-posting is also where posters and fliers are put on property and vehicles without permission.

How can we combat fly-posting?

• We can take action against those responsible for fly posting, remove illegal posters and placards, and recover the costs incurred in doing so from April 2006 we will have the powers to issue fixed penalty notice against offenders.
• We can also order owners of a property to remove any posters displayed and issue fines to owners who refuse to do so.

• If fly-posting appears on our own buildings, we will remove it as a matter of urgency.
