Council Services:

Clinical Waste

We now have a new system for collecting sharps waste.  Anyone requiring this service should contact Customer Services on 01427 676676 and you will be given a collection date within a 48 hour slot.

Please remember that West Lindsey District Council currently collect sharps healthcare waste only and you should have your sharps containers are outside your property, ready for collection on the allocated day.

Sharp instruments such as needles must be placed in special yellow plastic containers called sharps boxes, these boxes are provided by your GP surgery or hospital.  Please note that it is no longer necessary for the sharps box to be placed within a yellow sack prior to collection.

These clinical waste collections are free of charge to householders who need to dispose of medical waste resulting from treatment at home.

High risk clinical waste mainly waste from haemodialysis must not be placed with your normal refuse. It should be stored in special yellow clinical waste bags prior to collection.  Patients on haemodialysis at home must be referred to us by the relevant PCT (Primary Care Trust).  Following on from this referral, the Lincolnshire County Council will organise for an outside contractor to collect this waste.

All other low grade clinical waste, such as bandages, dressings, drainage bags, colostomy bags and incontinence pads, can be disposed of along with your normal domestic refuse.  As this will generate extra waste from your property, a larger sized wheeled bin could be available upon request.  However, we would appreciate it if any waste which can be recycled, e.g. cardboard packaging is placed in your blue bin.

Collections can be arranged by contacting Customer Services on 01427 676676 or by e-mailing customer.relations@west-lindsey.gov.uk
