Stray Dogs
If you loose or find a dog you should always contact us You can telephone us on 01427 676676 or use the stray dog online reporting form. This increases the chances of the animal and its owner being quickly reunited. When a dog has been found, we will arrange for contract kennels to collect the dog (within office hours). If you have lost your dog, we can put you in touch with the kennels to see if they have picked it up and will try and match you with any found dogs on our system.
Lincolnshire Police will no longer accept stray dogs found by members of the public and will only deal with dangerous dogs.
Anyone finding a stray dog after 17.00 can ring us on 01427 613960. You will need to take the dog to the kennels which will accept dogs up to 22:00 weekdays and 17:00 on Sundays and Bank Holidays or alternatively the dog can be collected from the finder the next working day.
Dogs cannot be reclaimed outside of normal office hours 8:30 to 17:00
If a member of the public decides to take personal responsibility for the dog they must by law do one of the following things:
- Return the dog to its owner if he or she can be identified
- Contact the local authority to arrange collection, or get directions to the contract kennels
- Keep the dog for a minimum of 28 days but only with the written permission of the local authority.
Owners are required to have their dog either micro-chipped or wear a collar with a tag – this will increase the chances of re-uniting you with your dog.
Stray dogs which are not claimed within 7 days are put up for rehoming – if you would like to give a stray dog a new home please contact us on 01427 676676 for details of the kennels.
