Why do we need a homelessness Strategy?

It’s not enough for Lincolnshire Local Authorities and their partner agencies to provide accommodation after people have become homeless.  Early intervention and prevention can prevent people becoming homeless in the first place.  Without suitable, sustainable accommodation/and or tenancies people are unlikely to succeed into independent living and repeat homelessness can occur. The Homelessness Bill requires Local Authorities to develop long term plans to prevent and tackle homelessness in a strategic way to;

• Prevent homelessness in our districts
• Securing that sufficient accommodation is and will be available for people in our districts who are or may become homeless
• Securing the satisfactory provision of support for people in our districts
  - who are or may become homeless or
  - who have been homeless and need support to prevent them becoming homeless again

Lincolnshire’s Homelessness Strategy provides a framework for our priorities and takes forward our joint actions. The strategy is available on the Download tab. By having a strategic approach to these problems we can reduce homelessness across Lincolnshire and have a far greater impact on homelessness than a disparate approach.
