Council Services:

Change in Circumstances

It is important that the benefit that is paid out either to help pay rent or council tax is worked out on the correct information.

We have information on the claim form when a claim is first made but if things change after this point we do not know unless we are told.

It is the responsibility of the person claiming the benefit to tell us of any change in circumstance that could effect their benefit.

If a landlord receives the money direct, they are also responsible for telling us of any change in circumstance that they could be aware of for example a tenant vacating.

We need to know the change(s) as soon as possible.

This can prevent too much benefit being paid out and we then have to ask for it to be repaid or it prevents a delay in awarding an increase in benefit.

Tell us if income or savings change, you move house, number of people in your home change, your rent changes.

If in doubt whether if effects your claim talk to us 01427 676565   or email benefits@west-lindsey.gov.uk
