Backdating a Claim
We normally start Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit from the Monday following when a claim is made.
- If you ask for a form we treat this date as the date the claim was made, as long as you return it within 1 month of it being issued.
- If you make a claim through the Jobcentre then we treat this date as the date your claim was made, as long as you claim Housing Benefit and or Council Tax Benefit within one month.
If you are claiming and you or your partner are over 60 years of age:
Your claim can start up to 3 months prior to when you made the claim. It depends on if you are entitled to any benefit during the prior 3 months from your date of claim.
