Local Land Charges
Update: May 2012
Please be aware that due to unplanned staff absences our normal level of service has been disrupted. As a result it is taking longer than usual to process search requests, but we are working hard to minimise disruption and to restore our usual level of service.
We are working on search requests in the order that they were received by the Council. We do not operate an expedite service and need to ensure that our customers receive fair treatment. Regrettably, we are therefore unable to prioritise specific requests but will make every effort to return your search information as quickly as possible.
Our turnaround time is currently a minimum of 22 working days.
The Local Land Charge Unit has two main functions:
- To maintain a register known as the Local Land Charges Register as required by the Local Land Charges Act 1975.
- To carry out searches of the Local Land Charge register and respond to applications for the Local Authority Searches submitted by solicitors and conveyancers as part of the Conveyancing procedure. The content of the Local Authority Searches consists of four main areas:
- Planning Permissions history
- Building Control history
- Highways status and proposed works
- Environmental Health Notices
